Finding the Magic

Anna Rasmussen is a ceramic artist born and raised in the woods of Pennsylvania. Imagination is key to her process as the worlds she creates are loosely rooted in ancient mythologies, fairy tales, superstitions, and spirituality.

Rather than dictate these legends to her audience, Rasmussen invites them to plumb their own histories of story. She is most interested in the “medial woman,” feminine carriers of culture and history, translators of processes and meaning. Her work speaks to the collective unconscious, the creative power of individual experiences that inform these imagined tales. Rasmussen finds the most joy in the act of creating. For her, sculpting is a ritual of language, a way to process and deepen her understanding of her work and research. Her artistic practice is a labor of love, an investment in gratitude, and a way to perpetuate her deep sense of wonder back into the world.
