Within Boundaries: Collecting and Exhibiting Chinese Contemporary Art in M+ Museum, Hong Kong

April Liu (b. 2001, Shanxi) is a curator, writer, and researcher working in contemporary art. Her practice is shaped by interests in institutional critique, East Asian contemporary art, and the perspectives that emerging artists bring to the field. She is especially interested in how exhibitions and collections produce, circulate, and reshape artistic discourse within shifting socio-political landscapes.

Her curatorial and research projects have been presented, or are forthcoming, across venues and institutions including Gelman Gallery, Providence; Aunty’s House Studios, Providence; UC San Diego, La Jolla; Tank Shanghai; Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing; and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her exhibition reviews have appeared in Tussle, Whitehot Magazine, and ArtDBL (打边炉). She has also worked in art administration at the International Studio & Curatorial Program, Christie’s, Pace Gallery, and other arts organizations.
