Without Traditional Craftsmanship, Modern Design is Nothing

The Ocean of Design fuses 600 years of wood carving heritage with modern design. Inspired by my ancestors who carved landmarks like Omer Hayat Palace, I create pieces where tradition and contemporary aesthetics meet. Shaped by leaves and clean modern lines, my work blends function with cultural expression. Each cut is a note in a generational score — the past isn’t behind me, it’s in my chisel. I don’t preserve tradition; I continue it, listening for the next note. This project proves craftsmanship and modernity aren’t separate. They live together in every mark, honoring what’s always been present while writing what hasn’t yet surfaced. Through this fusion, I aim to inspire designers to explore their roots and create innovative work that celebrates heritage as a living, evolving force.

Growing Spindle Back Chair reinterprets a traditional form through the lens of heritage craft and contemporary design. Drawing from 600 years of wood carving lineage, including my ancestors who built landmarks like Omer Hayat Palace, this piece treats the chair as a living object. Shaped by organic curves and clean modern lines, it balances function with cultural expression. Each spindle is a note in a generational score — the past isn’t behind me, it’s in my chisel. I don’t preserve tradition; I continue it, listening for the next note. This chair proves craftsmanship and modernity aren’t separate. They coexist in every joint, honoring heritage while creating what hasn’t yet surfaced.

New River Chair
Wood and leather, 29" H x 16" W x 17" D

Designed for New River Restaurant, this dining chair responds to seasonal food and plated presentation. The form and minimalist leaf carvings draw from salad greens and the clean lines of ceramic plates, merging dining experience with furniture design. Each part features distinct carving depths and shapes, refined with hand chisels to balance ornament and ergonomics. The leather seat grounds the piece in comfort and function. This project applies traditional woodcraft to contemporary dining, proving that precision, detail, and cultural reference can coexist. The result is a chair that serves both body and atmosphere — functional, sculptural, and rooted in the restaurant’s celebration of seasonality.
